Using the Job Performance Support Function
Job Performance Support (JPS) is a great feature of the CAP knowledgebase because it provides up-to-date answers 24/7 to help members do their jobs. By learning to use it on the job you are taking advantage of the combined knowledge and resources of many subject matter experts at headquarters and in the field with many years of experience handling the issues you face as a member in the field with a job to do. For those areas where you can't find an answer or need additional help, you may also submit questions to the knowledgebase. Your questions will be reviewed and forwarded to a subject matter expert for an answer as required. This process helps the knowledgebase continue to grow and improve because your question and the answer generated could be used to help many other members with the same question or situation.
For example, to learn details about the personnel specialty start with the specialty track study guide, in this case CAPP200 Specialty Track Study Guide-Personnel
Using a copy of CAPP 200, you can find a wealth of details in the knowledgebase on all aspects of personnel. For example when you come to the section on promotions CAP Regulation 35-5, type "35-5" into the knowledgebase search text box and you will see many answers which deal with promotions. Or to learn about the requirements for using CAP Form 2a Request for Promotion Action, type in "2a" to learn about how and when to use the form. You can also do the same search using keywords that relate to your specialty such as "assignments", "promotions", "demotions", "suspensions", etc. The same approach applies to other specialties using the specialty track study guide for the specialty.
