Civil Air Patrol is accepting entries for the 2013 Maj. Howell Balsem CAP Public Affairs Exceptional Achievement Awards through May 15. Click here to see a complete list of the winning entries from 2012 (with judges' comments), which include an entry chosen for the top prize of the competition -- the Lt. Col. Al Pabon Best in Show Balsem Award. To enter the 2013 awards competition, go to CAP's eServices and click on the "Balsem Awards" template at top right.


With more emphasis being placed on planning in CAPR 190-1, NHQ/PA reminds DPAs and PAOs that there are online resources available to help with your Public Affairs and Crisis Communications plans. The latest tool available is this Region Crisis Communication Plan Template provided by Lt. Col. Al Nash, the Rocky Mountain Region's director of public affairs.

Civil Air Patrol now has an updated CAP Fact Sheet, containing the address and contact information for CAP National Headquarters, that can be printed on the front and back of a regular sheet of copy paper. There is also a fill-in version of the fact sheet, which allows each CAP unit to include their address and contact information at the bottom of the first page (in the blank area below the red line) before printing.


Civil Air Patrol's 2012 Financial Report is now available online. Limited print copies of the report can be provided by emailing The publication not only provides a summary of CAP's financial record, it also furnishes a lively, attractive, photo-enriched overview of the organization's missions and members, designed to interest and inform CAP's stakeholders and national legislators and also to serve as a valuable marketing tool.


Civil Air Patrol now has a revised CAPabilities ops mission brochure available for use. It is available online in two versions -- high-resolution (printable) or low-resolution (suitable for a quick review).
