Mary Ann Croker, NH Wing, recommends the following:

"Having all cadets pass the CPFT for their respective age and achievement level has been a problem for many squadrons. We are now using a technique that has been successful for swim and track teams and it is simple. Make out index cards for each cadet with the goals for their phase and age listed on it. Put them in teams of two with each cadet scoring the other one. Before they test, have them look at their goals and then exchange cards. After the test is completed, then the cadet gives the card back to the teammate so he/she can see if more work is needed. Instant feedback and it works. All the cadets who tested this month passed."

"New Horizons" Cadet to Senior Transition Guide

Bobbie Tourville from the Massachusetts Wing used her experience as a former cadet to write a transition guide for cadets wishing to transition to senior membership. New Horizons tells interested cadets how to best administratively and personally prepare to become a senior member.

CPFT Record

Vivi Wells , of Oregon Wing, has produced this CPFT Record to help squadrons record CPFT scores. Once fitness testing is complete, "Pass" can be notated and then transferred to CAPF 66 or "Retest" can be notated for next time. This record can serve for many fitness tests, leaving a space in between testing periods and notating the new date. (Word 76 KB)

Cadet Progression Excel Spreadsheet

Delaware Wing continues to produce great tools! Here is a Microsoft Excel version of the CAPF 66, compliments of Joe McLaughlin of the Newark Cadet Squadron. (Excel 106 KB)

Here is a Microsoft Excel version of the Cadet Progression Chart for you to keep track of your squadron's cadet achievements, compliments of John McGaha of Delaware Wing. He created and tested this spreadsheet with a local squadron in DE Wing. The names are fictional and should be replaced with your squadron's cadets. There is one tab for Phase I and II, and another tab for the rest of the cadet program. John states, "Feel free to use it in any way you would like." (Excel 2.8 MB)

Character Development

"Flight Time" Character Development: CAP cadets participate in character development forums where they apply their Core Values to realistic case studies.  This presentation reviews successful ways to implement the character development program. "Concepts of the Strategic Coach"

Maj W. Alan Gay, author and CAP-USAF Reservist, discusses the concept of the strategic coach in his book, "Business for Life: How to Take Your Business to the Next Level." Partner with the Air National Guard

Lt Col Phyllis Griffin and Maryland Wing have had great success in their partnership with the Maryland Air National Guard.  The ANG connects cadets with aviation and careers. Cadets contribute to the Guard by performing community service. It is a win / win partnership. Learn more by reading Lt Col Griffin's presentation. (1.4 MB)

Partner with your local Air Force Recruiter

William Schlosser recently had a cadet pass the Wright Brothers exam and enter into NCO status.  When the cadet was presented his certificate, he had the local Air Force Recruiter come in and give the NCO oath. It seemed to make the day a little brighter and was a nice touch. This is something other units might consider if they have an Air Force Recruiter nearby.

Squadron Information Management System (SIMS) Database

Dennis Van der Vieren in CO Wing has developed SIMS, a Microsoft Access database for squadrons to manage their programs. Click here to go to the Squadron Command web site (you will leave the CAP.gov domain if you click this link) to find out more and to download the files.

CPFT Score Cards

Marty Lynn in MS Wing has developed a set of CPFT Score Cards in Microsoft Word format. These score cards are based upon the latest edition of CAPP 52-18.

Click here to download the CPFT Score Cards Word file as an optional tool for your squadron.

Cadet Programs Management

Clay Shepherd

in AlaskaWing has developed a system of agreements, or "contracts," to help him manage the Cadet Program and his cadets' progression. The agreements are listed below as an optional tool for your squadron. These agreements are in Microsoft Word format and can easily be changed to meet your squadron's specific needs. Click here to download the Contracts Zip file of the Microsoft Word documents as an optional tool for your squadron.

Note: These contracts have been updated to reflect the current CAPR 52-16 dated 1 Oct 2006.

Leadership Presentations

Developing Aerospace Leaders: If you're introducing the Cadet Program to parents, civic leaders, or other dignitaries, this presentation will be indispensable. It provides an overview of Cadet Program elements, the benefits CAP provides to youth and communities, membership demographics, plus budgetary and other statistics.

Special thanks to Del Rubi, SMSgt, USAF (Ret), in AZ Wing, for providing the leadership presentations included below.

  • Enlisted Force Structure: What is the role of the NCO?  In what ways are NCOs the backbone of the Air Force?  This presentation will be of interest to cadets wanting to learn more about the Air Force NCO, as well as leadership principles applicable to cadet NCOs.
  • Professional Responsibilities: Cadet Program leaders are encouraged to think of themselves as professionals. This presentation outlines the essential attributes of professionalism, to include such topics as personal conduct, integrity, interpersonal skills, and more.
  • Customs & Courtesies: When cadets and senior members wear the Air Force style uniform, they commit to following military customs and courtesies. This presentation  includes the history of that tradition, as well as guidelines on how military courtesy should be practiced.
  • Building a Cadet/Senior Member Team: One of the Cadet Program's timeless leadership issues is how should a cadet staff partner and interact with a senior members staff. This presentation addresses teambuilding, coaching as a form of leadership, communication and counseling techniques, and more.
  • Wear of the Uniform: There's only one way to wear the uniform - the right way! This presentation is an excellent visual aid for those teaching new members how to wear the uniform properly.

Aerospace Resources

Although the PowerPoint presentations below were designed for the AEPSM program, they may be of value to cadet officers studying Aerospace: Journey of Flight and aerospace education officers in cadet and composite squadrons. Special thanks to Tom Lodge in AZ Wing, for sharing this resource.
