Ever since the Air Force went to electronic-only publishing for their manuals, we haven't had the Drill & Ceremonies Manual available in hard copy format. The good news is most of the time most cadets don't need the full manual, but they do need some kind of training aid. Enter the Cadet Drill Guide.
The Cadet Drill Guide fits in your pocket and outlines the main rules governing the main drill movements. We designed this with cadet NCOs in mind. Next time a C/TSgt is teaching some airmen how to close and extend for example, he or she can whip out the Cadet Drill Guide and double-check the standards.
The guide also includes info on what movements cadets need to know at each achievement (under the upcoming L2L textbook rules).
We plan to add it to the New Cadet Kit in July, send every squadron a copy or two, and find a way for existing cadets and seniors to obtain one, too.
The Cadet Drill Guide will print at 3x5" (index card size) on the most durable paper our budget can afford.

Hi, I really like the drill guide. It is very helpful for a new cadet, especially for studying! Great job. I hope there will be a color guard manual (I want to be apart of my squadron's color guard soon) Again great job!
I just finished going through the guide. The first thing that stuck me about the guide, is that it does not teach how to give commands. I did not see anything about how to use inflection in the voice. The use of Hase, Harch, and Hup toop threep four were totally absent from the guide. I still have my old books (Leadership Lab and others from back in the 1960’s) that show where the inflection should be. I feel that this guide is a good start, but is not ready for wide spread use.
PLEASE I cant say how much I would love it if you could get this out in hard copy to ALL the cadets! And the sooner the better. This would be absolutely a vital learning tool! All new and existing cadets need this.
I see that we have finally combined all necessary knowledge into one resource. However, I would like to see a 'Color Guard Manual' much like this.
I am glad you put the Demonstration-Performance method of instruction in the guide. How about adding a page or two on the 5 elements of command voice?
Page 29 "FALL OUT", Teaching Tips contradicts text on the rest of the page. AFMAN 36-2203 3.3.1.4 further states "They _must_ remain in the immediate area,...". Suggested text: "FALL OUT is appropiate if cadets are not needed to remain in ranks but do need to stay nearby (ex. "FALL OUT and sit down in the bleachers behind you"). "DISMISSED" is used if the formation is over and the cadets are to move to another location (indoors, a classroom, return home, etc.)

Once again, the National Cadet Team has come out with a great tool to help supplement the existing materials. However, I think that it is still important for cadets to know the actual drill manual. Since the drill manual is available online and I assume is on the CDs that get sent out with the cadet binders, it would be nice to see references to the applicable sections of the AF drill manual or cite the manual on the last page as the primary source. With or without those citations though, I think this will be a great tool for drill instructors in CAP. [We'll try to add the citations, but I'm not sure if they will physically fit on such a small document. And unfortunately, the "Next Step CD" program ended about 2 or 3 years ago. -curt]

Another excellent resource. I would like to thank the NHQ CADET TEAM for all of their hard work of putting out the items we need in the field to help the cadets help themselves. BRAVO!

First of all you guys are doing a great job developing new training materials.Keep up the excellent work! Now, If there could be some way, and maybe you've already hit on a solution, that we could buy any training material you produce. We can go to the local Office Max and get the file copied, but it's soooooo expensive. Maybe do a limited run of extra copies and have them on hand for purchase.
